What makes the evaluation neurodiversity affirming?

Combining affirming care along with a comprehensive evaluation allows you to learn about your own wonderful brain in a supportive and collaborative way. The assessment tools have been throughly researched and thoughtfully chosen as they are the most neurodiversity affirming measures available.

Historically, the prevailing perspective attempted to "fix" neurodiversity, frequently leading to masking behaviors and detrimental effects on mental health. An affirming approach involves recognizing and honoring the unique differences present in each individual.

What are the benefits to an evaluation?

Benefits range from getting to know your wonderful and unique brain better, to getting a “formal” diagnosis, and being able to have treatment and accommodation recommendations as appropriate.

My ADHD evaluations differ from full neuropsychology evaluations for a few reasons. The first is that my training as a Licensed Clinical Social Work has focused on looking at clients as a whole person not only a diagnosis. In the state of Maryland LCSW-Cs like myself can assess for and diagnose ADHD. Additionally, the evaluation only focuses on ADHD as that is my area of training and expertise. During our phone consultation we will discuss why you are interested in an evaluation to make sure that what I provide will meet your goals.
